How To Tame the Brow

I am not a makeup professional and I am not a mature adult, but the way I apply my makeup has certainly matured since the days of smudging messy black eyeliner and mascara on before the first bell in 7th grade. In the years following the haunted period of too much eyeliner, I have learned a few things about how to use makeup to make myself appear older. My current favorite trick to make myself look put together on a daily basis: filling in my eyebrows.
You’re probably thinking, “that’s no revelation, people know to fill in their eyebrows Chloe.” And you’re right; I’m not declaring a major makeup breakthrough or slipping you some coveted makeup secret. I am simply stating my own experience with eyebrows. Here’s what I’ve learned:
Shape Matters
For many years, I turned to a simple tinted brow gel to brush my eyebrow hair in place, while slightly filling them in. It got the job done and made me feel presentable. However, after only using a gel for all of this time, I was eager to try something new. After seeing rows and rows of the perfectly crafted eyebrow on my Instagram feed, I knew I was selling myself short. So I went to Sephora and purchased the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. It took me a few tries until I could achieve something that resembled a brow shape. It wasn’t perfect but let me tell you, it made a huge difference. Giving your eyebrows a proper shape not only accentuates your eyes, but it frames your entire face.
Work What Your Mama Gave Ya
We may have not all been born with beautiful, bushy Cara Delevingne eyebrows, but that doesn’t mean you can’t fake it. Start by using whatever brow product you have to gently outline the bottom of where you want your brow to be. From there, define the tail of your brow, which will usually thin out to a point toward the perimeter of your face. Next, I like to use very light strokes the fill in the inner half of my eyebrow. Following these two steps will create a gradient-like effect.
There are many options for brow products out there, so take your pick and practice, practice, practice. Good luck!
